What is Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin?

Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin (The Path of the Wisdom of Song) is a divination method that pairs music theory, numerology, the guidance of your Elevated Ancestors and the Orisa Èṣù (using Obi divination to speak to your Elevated Ancestors and my personal Èṣù) to interpret messages from Spirit through instrumental music. By analyzing the mathematical relationships within a song's instrumental composition—its notes, intervals, keys, hertz frequencies, rhythms, and harmonic structure—using numerology, Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin seeks to use song to discern the wisdom most pertinent to the present moment.

Rather than predicting the future, Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin asks a different question:

What wisdom, most pertinent to my life right now, is Spirit revealing through the music I am drawn to and the feelings it awakens within me?

What Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin Is Not

Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin is not a form of traditional Ifá divination.

While Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin is deeply informed by my study and practice within the Diasporic Isese tradition as an initiated priest of Obatala, it is not intended to replace or replicate traditional methods of Ifá divination (Ikin Ifá, Dilogun, or Obi).

Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin is named to honor the sacred role that song (orin) holds within Ifá and its many expressions throughout the diaspora. This methodology emerges from my own spiritual journey, musical practice, and relationship with Spirit while remaining distinct from established Ifá lineages and their traditional divination systems.

As I continue learning traditional Ifá divination, Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin remains my first divination instrument, as music was the first—and remains the most resonant—connection I have with Spirit as a composer and spiritualist.

What a Reading Looks Like

Each Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin reading begins with a song of your choosing. You will submit a song that feels significant to your current season—all genres are welcome; however, I will not be analyzing lyrics—and select the section you would like interpreted.

We will begin by offering a Mojúbà (opening prayer), calling upon your Elevated Ancestors and Èṣù to guide the reading. From there, I will analyze the instrumental composition of your selected section through the framework of Ọ̀nà Ọgbọ́n Orin to discern the wisdom Spirit is revealing for your present season.
